Fans of Uncharted 3's fantastic co-op have an early Christmas present to look forward to.
In mid-December, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will be getting a free co-op survival mode called Uncharted 4: Survival. Fans of the series' earlier co-op efforts in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception or Horde Mode in Gears of War will feel right at home, as players can team up (or go solo) against waves of increasingly difficult baddies.
The multiplayer team at Naughty Dog has added a few clever twists to the winning formula that make it stand apart. In addition to its own progression system separate from the game's competitive suite, rounds will introduce surprise rules, such as required item collection or headshots-only. This promises to spice things up and prevent waves from becoming repetitive.
Survival will play out over 50 waves, with every 10 culminating in an epic boss battle against one of Libertalia's pirate founders from the campaign. There are plenty of players who feel intimidated by the time commitment required to make significant progress in a conventional Horde mode, which is why it's a good thing that the action is divided into 10 maps with 5 waves each. That way you can make good progress whether you have 15 minutes to spare or a whole day.
Uncharted 4: Survival will be available as a free update in mid-December, but eager fans will be able to get their hands on it in the first week of December during PlayStation Experience.
