It's no secret that last year's Assassin's Creed Unity disappointed a lot of long time fans (myself included) with its abundance of glitches, inconsistent controls, and poor mission design. The team behind this year's industrial revolution-set entry, Ubisoft Quebec, has been making all the right moves with Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Excising the series' multiplayer in favor of polishing up its single-player roots and playtesting the game heavily, early, and often have done much to restore my confidence in the series, and the game looks more polished and exciting every time it's shown.
Hideo Kojima has finally revealed the release date for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the latest entry in the nearly three-decade old saga. Players will get their first taste of Kojima's unique brand of open-world stealth on September 1st.
For those keeping track: it's been nearly 7 years since the release of the last mainline console entry, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and going on 5 since the impressive handheld Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Last year saw the launch of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, which acted as something of a tech demo for the Fox Engine and a testbed for the series' new gameplay systems. This game has been a long time coming, and if we end up seeing this, Persona 5, and Final Fantasy XV (fingers crossed) all in the same year 2015 could be one for the record books.
