Hideo Kojima's mysterious and psychedelic horror trip looks more arresting than ever in new Game Awards footage.
Hideo Kojima has given the community at large an endless amount of mysteries to ponder with a new trailer for his PlayStation 4 exclusive Death Stranding. The trailer confirms the rumored involvement of actor Mads Mikkelsen, who is having a record year since finishing the Hannibal TV series by starring in Marvel's Doctor Strange and the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Matching the notoriously perfectionist actor with the notoriously perfectionist auteur that is Hideo Kojima seems like a perfect match.
As you can see from the trailer, director and friend of Kojima Guillermo Del Toro also stars in the trailer, in a far less antagonistic role than Mikkelsen. Del Toro's involvement is unknown at this time. He was collaborating with Kojima on the canceled Silent Hills project, but we don't yet know if this is a hint at a new collaboration or just a cameo appearance from a friend.
Also of note, the trailer confirms that Kojima Productions is using something called the "Decima" engine. You might recall that Kojima was doing a whirlwind tour with Sony's Mark Cerny of first party studios like Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Insomniac, and Guerilla Games. We don't know which technology Kojima ultimately settled on, but it's likely that whichever engine was chosen has been heavily modified to serve Kojima Productions' own design purposes, thus warranting the new name.
Two movie-style posters were released for Death Stranding as well, each focusing on Mikkelsen and Del Toro's involvement.
