Insomniac Games delivers a "greatest hits" culmination of everything that makes its most famous series tick.
Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are remakes to 2003's Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and while the game is primarily the same, there have been a ton of new additions thanks to Pokémon X and Y that make these remakes stand out from the previous ones.
LEGO Marvel's Avengers is the spiritual successor to 2013's LEGO Marvel Super Heroes but this time, it's sticking to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in what I found to be an enjoyable experience that is held back from reaching "True Believer" status.
While LEGO Marvel Super Heroes told an original story that had decades of comics to back itself up with, LEGO Marvel's Avengers pulls directly from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story primarily covers the plots of The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron but also includes sections based on Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World, and Iron Man 3. After finishing the main story I was rather displeased by it. It does a faithful retelling of the movies but what disappointed me about this was how soon it was over and how much was glossed over.

The past couple of months have seen a large chunk of story DLC hit for a variety of AAA games. Here's a look at three of the biggest, for Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Batman: Arkham Knight, and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Read on to find out if they are worth your time.
A few years ago, while I was still in high school, me and a friend would fantasize over what a Battlefront game developed by DICE would be like. If I could somehow go back in time and tell myself to start getting excited I would but not too excited. DICE's Battlefront does a lot of things right but often stumbles along the way.
Life is Strange gave me an experience I wasn't really expecting. From what I knew of it, it was about a girl who could send herself shortly back in time. I also knew it was a choice driven experience similar to what you would find in Telltale games. The game did deliver on those two aspects, but had them mostly in the background while it dealt with a cliché high school experience and incredibly one dimensional characters. As the credits rolled on the first episode, I was intrigued with where the story was going, but was frustrated with how poorly executed some of the aspects of the game are.
2015 was a magnificent year for games. The next generation of consoles finally got into a nice rhythm and there was no shortage of great titles for all of us to enjoy. Which ones stood out as the best of the best for us here at APG?
Game developers pour hours and hours of blood, sweat, and tears into their projects. Many receive little to no credit for their endless work but still, they work to deliver the best possible product for us to enjoy. In our current day and age that is so saturated with annualized releases from gargantuan triple-A companies, we've seen a steady trend of extremely similar games with slightly different skins. Each successive entry from each massive franchise offers developers basically no creative voice within the triple-A space, which is unfortunate, because the gaming medium has so much potential for interactive experiences capable of transcending anything possible in any other artistic medium.
So many developers who toil so hard on these uninspired projects have their own unique stories and experiences to share with us. But the fact is there isn't much room for creative flexibility within the triple-A space and, although the indie space has opened the door for different experiences that offer developers a voice within this industry that so often stifles creativity in favor of safety, limited budgets and resources often prevent indie games from reaching their full potential. Fears of critical, technical, and business failures only add to the anxieties that game developers deal with. Needless to say, there are a lot of aspiring developers out there who are intimidated by the vast barrier of entry created by our current mass gaming market.
So that brings me to The Beginner's Guide. The Beginner's Guide is the second project from Davey Wreden, who formed the new studio Everything Unlimited Ltd. to try and follow up off the huge success of his first game, The Stanley Parable. Tackling game development topics in a really unique way, the inspiration from its antecedent The Stanley Parable is quite clear. Does it leave as lasting of an impression as its massively successful predecessor?
Some long-dormant game franchises claw their way back from the grave and return in zombified form: their tattered clothes, peeling skin, and severed limbs render them a shade of their former greatness. With 2015's King's Quest reboot, however, developer The Odd Gentlemen has recaptured the humor and magic that have since made its predecessors so legendary, bringing the once-dead series roaring back to beautiful, vibrant life.
