On paper, a video game based around a luchador, utilizing the exploration and power-ups in a way similar to Metroid or Castlevania games, would sound crazy. I'm happy to report, though, that that very concept turned into one of my favorite games I've played in a while.

As a lifelong fan of Yu-Gi-Oh, Legacy of the Duelist sounded like a dream come true. No other game from Konami has allowed fans of the show to play through every single series Yu-Gi-Oh has put out (minus Arc V, but the show isn't even available to us yet). While the game did fulfill a lot of what I was looking for in a Yu-Gi-Oh game, some aspects cause the experience to turn frustrating extremely quickly.
Of all the memories I have of GameCube games, Pokémon Colosseum is surely my fondest. There are some reasons beyond the actual game for that, but regardless, I've always had a special bit of nostalgia for it. In my quest to play through most of my childhood games, I decided to relive the entry that meant so much to me. What I got was a nice trip down memory lane, with a few annoying bumps a long the way.
Batman: Arkham Knight will always be a very divisive game. Since it's release, I've noticed that many people fall into the "love it" or "hate it" camps, with few falling somewhere in the middle. As for me, I liked the game, but it certainly felt like the weakest of the core trilogy. Oh and, spoilers for Arkham Knight ahead, if there is anyone out there who still hasn't gotten their hands on it yet.
Even though I've conquered every boss Bloodborne had to offer, nothing left me with more of an impression than the glorious fight versus Father Gascoigne.
E3 2016 was a big one for many reasons, but Virtual Reality was pushed harder than anything else. From Bethesda, to Ubisoft, to Oculus, and especially Sony, VR had a heavy presence at the show. This was the big shot for many of these companies to sell VR and make everyone excited for this new concept, but for me, I'm definitely not buying it.
Interestingly enough, during the Sony press conference I was getting excited for VR. Batman, Final Fantasy XV, Star Wars, Farpoint, and Resident Evil VII all seemed like big things that I would really enjoy. I was almost being sold on the idea, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that VR underwhelmed this year.
Since it's unveiling at E3 a few days ago, I've had trouble getting Resident Evil 7 out of my head. What I thought would be a new horror IP turned out to be the next entry in a franchise that, admittedly, lost it's horror roots along the way. However, even after watching the trailer again, I couldn't really shake the feeling that this didn't really seem very Resident Evil-ish. Maybe playing the demo would help?
Sometimes you come across game design so utterly bad, it makes you wonder what the developers were thinking putting it into their game. I discovered an example of this when I was revisiting a treasured childhood game, and I just had to talk about it.
