King Digital has a new owner following a recent purchase by Activision.
King Digital is best known for creating the phenomenon on smartphones, Candy Crush in 2012. Following up that in 2014, King released Candy Crush Soda Saga. Beyond the Candy Crush games, King has released titles such as Bubble Witch Saga, Farm Heroes Saga, and Papa Pear Saga.
Even though many might say $5.9 billion was a tad bit too high to purchase a studio with, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick is optimistic about the acquisition. In a press release, he said: ""Mobile gaming is the largest and fastest-growing opportunity for interactive entertainment and we will have one of the world's most successful mobile game companies and its talented teams providing great content to new customers, in new geographies throughout the world. King has a truly fantastic management team and over 1,600 incredibly talented employees and we are excited to welcome them into the Activision Blizzard family."
Activision has stated that they will allow King to continue operating as an independent business unit. CEO Riccardo Zacconi will continue to lead the company with existing management, including chief creative officer Sebastian Knutsson and chief operating officer Stephane Kurgan.
