5 Characters I Hope Appear in Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite

If you could have five characters appear in the next Marvel vs. Capcom game, who would they be?

For a good three months I considered buying a plane ticket and going to PlayStation Experience last December. I really wish I did because I would have screamed my lungs out at the announcement of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Windjammers coming soon.

But I'm not here to talk about Windjammers, today I'm here to throw out a few characters who I hope make the roster for MvCI. I have so many hopes and guesses but also many reservations.

Marvel Entertainment is owned by Disney and that includes Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios. That being said, FOX owns the movie rights to the Fantastic Four, X-Men, the word mutant, and all respective characters under those two mantles.  The Spider-Man film rights are owned by Sony but we also know that Disney/Marvel and Sony came to a mutual agreement so now Spider-Man can appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he has! On the other side of things, if you've seen Avengers: Age of Ultron and X-Men: Days of Future Past you probably noticed Quicksilver appearing in both films. See, both Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch are the children of the egotistical Magneto but they have also been members of the Avengers in the comics. FOX was okay with Marvel using the characters so long as they altered their origins to not include Magneto or any mutter of the word mutant, they're "miracles" now.

I had to include that before my list because that is what makes this a tough thing to sometimes think about: the licensing. I have no clue if movie right carry over to video games. I look at Disney Infinity and see how there are no X-Men or Fantastic Four characters represented but hey, Spider-Man and Venom are in the game. Even looking at potential leaks on the internet, people claim that Capcom will not include any X-Men characters at launch but instead as future DLC.

And here we go.

Anybody who knows me can attest to this one. Spider-Man is my favorite superhero and practically my idol. He's appeared in just about every entry in the series thus far so it would be almost jarring to see the final roster and his character not be there. But so much time has passed since Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and a lot has changed in the comics. We have two Spider-Men headlining their own series. There's our classic web-head: Peter Parker and then there's Miles Morales, the Spider-Man from the Ultimate universe who made his way over to the current Marvel universe (don't ask me to explain it because it's a lot of work to explain comic universes and events). So which wallcrawler do they go with? Both of them, just have the other Spider-Man be a alternate costume with a different voice actor.

Leon S. Kennedy

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 gave us Jill "I'm a member of S.T.A.R.S." Valentine and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 gave us Chris, Wesker, Nemesis, and Jill. At this point there are only three characters who have yet to make an appearance: Claire Redfield, Ada Wong, and Leon S. Kennedy. Any one of them could appear in the game, hell I'd love for two of them to make it in the roster but for the sake of this list I'm going to pick Leon. I mean he did save the president's daughter in the fourth game and killed another president in the sixth.

Or Kitty Pryde for those who don't know. If they can somehow get X-Men characters into the game then it's almost safe to assume that Wolverine, Storm, and Magneto will be the go to picks. I would love for Shadowcat to be included in the game because I feel like a lot of people give her the short end of the stick because her mutant ability allows her to walk through walls. How do you even build a character around that in a fighting game? Turn her phasing abilities into a teleport move. Kitty is already a skilled martial artist (due to being possessed by the demon Ogun) and if characters like Servbot and Roll can be playable in MvC2 why not a character as awesome as Kitty? Kitty has gained a lot more renown nowadays, she's mentored the time-displaced X-Men of the past (again, don't ask) and she has also been a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel and Capcom have been pretty good at picking lesser known characters for their fighting games, why not Kitty?

Phoenix Wright

If you have ever played Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 then you would know that one of the oddest inclusions in the game was defense attorney Phoenix Wright. His fighting style reflects his profession. He throws papers around, searches for evidence and yells OBJECTION! without getting a sore throat. I don't necessarily play the character but I love his inclusion as it cemented just how varied and diverse the roster could get.

What if Gwen Stacy was bitten by the radioactive spider, Peter Parker became the Lizard and died, and Matt Murdock was the Kingpin? Those are just a few things that are revealed in the Spider-Gwen comic series and I love it. Alternate universes are always a joy to explore as it flips the script on what we know and possibly love about a character and this one is great. The fighting style of Spider-Gwen could just be a copy paste of Spider-Man with a little more style and flair, but her level 3 super could be bringing together the members of the Mary Janes (the band she's in) and they all rock out for massive damage.

Who knows when we will hear more about Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite I just hope the roster is a surprising mix of old, new, and obscure characters. Out of the five characters on this list, I fully expect two of them to make the roster while the others to be nothing more than a dream. Who would you like to see appear in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite?
